JOHN PRENDERGAST, PhD, is an adjunct associate professor of psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, author, and psychotherapist in private practice in San Rafael, California. He studied for many years with the European sage Jean Klein and more recently with Adyashanti.
The Conference on Nondual Wisdom and Psychotherapy, sponsored by the Center for Timeless Wisdom and held annually since 1998, explores the interface of nondual wisdom traditions, from both East and West, with the practice of modern psychotherapy. The conference is designed for mental health professionals interested in investigating the impact of spiritual awakening — the seeing through of the separative sense of self — on both therapists and clients. Practitioners of other healing arts as well as the general public are welcome to participate.

John Prendergast in The Translucent Revolution:

“One can hide out in the absolute, get stuck in emptiness. Awakening has no effect on day-to-day life unless superficial conditioning drops away. After a real awakening, the deeper conditioning, even the core story that a person carries, can continue. Until it's directly paid attention to, and worked through, one will continue to act out the conditioning in destructive ways."
