ERIC UTNE is the founder of Utne Reader magazine, a digest of “the best of the alternative press,” which began publishing in 1984. From 2000 to 2002 he was a seventh and eighth grade teacher at City of Lakes Waldorf School. In the fall of 2004 he launched Cosmo Doogood’s Urban Almanac, an urban version of the old farmers’ almanacs. He lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his wife, Nina, and their four sons.

Eric Utne in The Translucent Revolution:

“Cultivating a child's social and emotional skills is much more important than pushing their abstract reasoning and rational skills. Those tend to come along naturally with the children's ability to manage their own emotions, to be aware of what they're feeling, and to be aware of what others are feeling."
